Injury Treatment

Knowing what to do in an emergency is critical, but does a dental emergency require calling 911?  No.  Does it require an emergency room visit?  Maybe, but only if it is your only option.

Dr. Paul F. DiMattia & Associates in Lexington, Massachusetts, are available to handle your dental emergencies, either during regular business hours, after hours, or on the weekend.  If a tooth is lost or severely broken or if you are experiencing severe tooth or jaw pain, call 781-862-0665 immediately for more advice on how to manage it and if you require immediate treatment.

Dental injuries can lead to severe complications if not treated promptly.  Damage to the tooth nerve, severe breaks, or large pieces of tooth missing are urgent matters while minor breaks or chips can possibly wait for an appointment during regular business hours.

For a tooth that is completely knocked out of the socket, handle it as little as possible.  If the patient is old enough to practice extreme care, try to place it back into the socket, but be careful not to swallow the tooth.  Put a wet tea bag or moist gauze between the teeth and gently bite down.  If this is not possible, place the tooth in a small container with some milk (the patient’s saliva, if nothing else is available).  Keep it moist while contacting the office.

If no other options are available, an emergency room doctor can provide instructions and possibly pain relief.
