Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are proven in studies to help prevent cavities in children and adolescents.  Sealants are available for children up to the age of 18 and are covered by most insurance companies.  The staff at Dr. Paul F. DiMattia & Associates can help you determine if your insurance covers this benefit.

Teaching children a good oral routine is not always the easiest thing.  Not only are some children resistant to the “boring stuff” of brushing and flossing, but their mouths are also smaller.  It is harder to reach the back teeth and clean them properly.  Getting them a small toothbrush makes it more manageable, but even then, the teeth are filled with deep grooves that collect food particles and build up plaque.

Dr. DiMattia can apply dental sealants to protect the teeth from the plaque buildup.  A rubbery substance is applied to the teeth with a small brush.  It is a quick and painless procedure that seals the deep grooves of the teeth to prevent the invasion of plaque.

If plaque attaches to tooth enamel and remains there long enough, bacteria forms and tooth decay begins.  The sealant is designed to stop that process from starting.  The sealants are monitored for wear or cracking and can be reapplied easily if needed.
